These Fantasy Romance Books Will Take You To Whole New Worlds

by Silvana Reyes November 19, 2022

Sometimes you crave a fantasy book. You want action-packed scenes, high-stakes, fights, magic systems, and even talking animals. You want epic adventures that make the characters grow closer. But if you’re like me, you also want to read a romance book. How someone falls in love and finds their other half. How there are small moments between characters, like holding their hand and kissing their forehead, that make you fall madly in love with the book. But what if you crave both of them at the same time? The good thing is that fantasy romance books exist; a little bit of one and a little bit of the other mixed together in one unique and beautiful book.

Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater

Half a Sould by Olivia Atwater

Do you want a fantasy regency romcom? Look no further because you’ve found it.Half a Soul is a hilarious historical romance that takes place in London and features one young woman who has been living her life with half a soul after a fae took it from her when she was just a kid.

She arrives in London to accompany her cousin in her search for a husband, along with her meddlesome and annoying aunt alongside them. Dora feels like a secondary character in another person’s story, but when she meets the grumpy but sweet Lord Sorcier, Elias Wilder, her whole life changes.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen

The Undertaking of Heart and Mercy by Megan Bannen

Now, if you want a romcom but with zombies, do check outThe Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. This fascinating and interesting fantasy romance introduces demigods, undertakers, talking animals, and some pen pals.

It’s hilarious in a way that not many books are. Hart and Mercy, our main protagonists, will quickly steal your heart while you get to know them, see them grow before your eyes, and reach their happily ever after. Even though they are *whispers* enemies, you’ll see their chemistry easily and won’t be able to stop rooting for them.

King of Battle and Blood by Scarlett St. Clair

King of Battle and Blood by Scarlett St. Clair

But what if you crave a little bit of danger and steam? Not to worry becauseKing of Battle and Blood will satisfy your needs. St. Clair is well-known for her Hades and Persphone fantasy romance series, but she kicked down the door to let us know she also has a new series that features sexy vampires and risky fights.

In this novel, you’ll get to meet Isolde and Adrian, one a human princess and the other a vampire king. Different beings from enemy kingdoms, but for peace, they agree to marry. It’s the start of a marriage of convenience, but that soon turns into something more when feelings and memories start to come up in their relationship.

The Dark King by Gina L. Maxwell

The Dark King Gina L. Maxwell

Another book you can look forward to isThe Dark King. Think Las Vegas glamour with some deceit, fae, and danger when it comes to this book. But also you’ll be needing a fan while reading this because oh man is this hot.

Maxwell crafts an intriguing story of fae kings in Las Vegas when Bryn Meara, the heroine, decides to take a trip to an exclusive, ultra-luxe hotel and finds herself married to the reclusive billionaire owner of said hotel. And that’s not the only thing! Because she also realizes that he’s not only a billionaire, he’s royalty; the fae king of the Night Cout.

Just Like Magic by Sarah Hogle

Just Like Magic by Sarah Hogle - Romance Novel, Holiday Romance

One thing I’m fully enjoying this year is the light fantasy romance books publishers have been releasing. Sometimes I get a headache when it comes to intricate fantasy worlds and difficult magic systems. I love them, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes you are in the mood for something light and easy to follow along.

Just Like Magic has the perfect amount of magic and a ton of romance. It follows Bettie Hughes who has to return to her family’s house for the holidays but doesn’t want to tell them she’s broke and living in a dead person’s house. So, when she accidentally summons the Holiday Spirit in person, she thinks all her problems have been solved. Put a little bit of fake engagement trope and lots of chaotic situations and you’ll get Hogle’sJust Like Magic.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Finally, this is another light fantasy romance novel everyone should be reading. The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is a warm and uplifting novel where witches exist.

Mika, a witch, knows she has to hide her magic in order not to draw attention. She follows the rules to a T except when it comes to uploading videos of her doing magic to her secret online account. But then, someone actually contacts her! They want her to travel to the mysterious Nowhere House so she can teach three young witches how to control their magic.

Groveling in Romance Novels
The Art of the Grovel in Romance Books

by Silvana Reyes June 28, 2023

Remember when I mentioned in my previous post how a groveling scene can totally make or break a romance book? Well, let's dive into that topic a bit more, shall we? Now, I know there's been some talk and debate about those dramatic third-act breakup scenes, but guess what? I'm a huge fan of them, especially in romance books! Why, you ask? Well, here's the scoop: I absolutely love it when the groveling happens after the breakup. It's that magical moment when the person who messed up finally realizes they can't live without their other half and goes all out to win them back. Talk about fireworks!
